About 323 Horizon

Operators. Not financial engineers.

323 Horizon was built by people who have run these businesses. Hired the crews, made payroll, closed the deals, and lived the hard years. The record is the thesis.

Why operators

We have done the work we now invest behind.

01

We have run these businesses.

A financial buyer models from the outside. We know where the margin hides and which fixes move the number, because we have made them.

02

We buy the essential and unglamorous.

Fire protection, facilities, flooring, field service. Non-discretionary demand that does not evaporate in a downturn. Boring is beautiful.

03

We hold and compound.

Held, not flipped. We keep the people who built the business and let durable companies compound, patiently.

The story

From $800 and a pickup truck to national scale.

In 2005, Michael Crafton started with $800, a pickup truck, and handwritten invoices. He chose the work nobody wanted, the hard, unforgiving service category considered impossible to manage at scale, and spent years in the field proving there was a better way.

That company became one of the country’s largest fire and life-safety platforms: more than twenty offices serving 40,000+ customer locations, grown through eleven acquisitions and refined across five exits. He automated through the 2008 downturn and rebuilt from a 70% revenue loss in 2020 to record earnings nine months later.

323 Horizon is where that operating discipline goes to work as an investor, buying and running the essential service companies he knows cold, and modernizing them with applied AI.

The record

Twenty years, one throughline.

2005 The beginning $800, a pickup truck, and handwritten invoices. The work nobody wanted.
2008 Offense in a downturn Automated field operations and won national contracts while competitors cut.
2010–18 Scale by acquisition Twenty offices nationwide, eleven acquisitions, deal-making from the buy side.
2015 First exit The sell side of the table, and the first of five realized exits.
2020 The ultimate test A pandemic erased 70% of the base. Rebuilt to record earnings in nine months.
2021 Five exits realized Both sides of the table, now behind every decision we make.
2022 323 Ocean founded The advisory bench: practitioner experience, not consulting theory.
Now 323 Horizon Buy, operate, modernize. Essential businesses, compounded. Still building.
The team

Principals, and room to grow.

What we believe

Four beliefs, earned the hard way.

01

Employees first, customers second.

Take care of your people and they take care of your customers. Seven Top Workplace awards proved it.

02

Experience over theory.

Cash crunches, near-collapse, deals falling apart at the finish line. We know what works because we have lived it.

03

Discipline creates freedom.

Financial controls, accountability, operating rhythms. The unglamorous work that lets founders stop firefighting.

04

Everything connects to value.

Every decision ties back to durable enterprise value, not a report that looks good and changes nothing.
